Long eyelashes can make you look amazing, change everything about our look. But leaving them long with mascara or fake eyelashes every morning is tiring. Eyelash extensions come to help us a lot and we explain everything you need to know to decide here.
Most women don’t have the time or patience to apply fake eyelashes every day. (We barely have enough time to use an eyelash curler!) So it’s no surprise that lash extensions have become increasingly popular in recent years.
So you want longer lashes without applying mascara or false lashes? Eyelash Extensions will make your dream come true. But, like every beauty treatment there is a little things you need to know about it before done it.
What is Eyelash Extension
Eyelash extensions are used to enhance the length, curliness, fullness, and thickness of natural eyelashes. There are three types of lash extensions: synthetic, silk and mink. Size availability ranges from 6mm to 17mm. Once selected, the lashes are applied one at a time using a specially formulated, semi-permanent glue that will not irritate the eye nor damage the natural lash. However, since allergic reactions are possible, there are different types of glue based on one’s sensitivity.
Lash extensions are the first innovation in lash lengthening that can be worn daily, without nightly removal. Because each tapered, synthetic lash is bonded to a single natural lash, the final result is of effortless glamour and difficult to detect even close up.
Do you want length? Volume? Fullness? Is this for a special, once-in-a-lifetime event? Do you want to draw attention to the shape or color of your eyes?
Before do it
Before the application, you should talk to your specialist about how you’d like your eyelashes to look and the main concerns with your natural lashes. Do you want length? Volume? Fullness? Is this for a special, once-in-a-lifetime event? Do you want to draw attention to the shape or color of your eyes? Once you’ve answered those questions, the specialist will help you choose the perfect set for your needs, and one that will enhance your eye shape. According to our specialist Sheila Karim, certified Novalash, the treatment always will be customizable to each client.
You have to lay low for at least 12 hours after application. Most technicians will tell you not to sweat, cry, swim, or wash your face for at least 12 hours after getting extensions to give the glue a chance to dry.
Since each lash extension is attached to a single eyelash, they will fall out naturally along with the natural growth cycle of each lash. Some techniques like Novalash allows natural lashes to grow and thrive with extensions. This technique requires several different “separation” steps during the application process so each extension is adhered to a single natural lash in order to prevent interruption of the lash growth cycle.
When correctly applied lashes extensions can be worn throughout the year with minimal monthly maintenance. Touch-ups are recommended after the initial full set application to refill any lashes that have cycled out. To maintain the full, thick appearance of a new set of lashes a visit to your beauty/lash professional is recommended every 4 weeks based on your own natural lash growth cycle.
Tips to increase duration
- Avoid water for the first 24 hours.
- Do not get your eyelashes directly in the way of the heat.
- Do not use heavy eye creams or oils near the extensions, as they may loosen the glue.
- Do not use cotton on eyelashes because the fiber will attract lint. Instead, use a soft cloth and water when removing the coating and shade.
Because of the sensitive nature of the lashes and the surrounding area, finding someone who is certified to apply the lashes is definitely a must. Just like you would with a hairstylist, research who you want to go to and how long they have been working as a technician. Look at before-and-after photos, read reviews and always make sure they are licensed and lash-certified. You don’t need to be afraid, just trust in a professional to help you.
